In case you haven’t heard, we are currently knee deep in one of the most delicious events of the year in Raleigh. That’s right, Downtown Raleigh Restaurant Week is upon us! Produced by the Downtown Raleigh Alliance, this week is a great opportunity to support the local Raleigh food scene while checking a few restaurants off of your bucket list! Not only can you nab some great deals, you may find yourself tasting special off-menu items, curated by the chef just for Restaurant Week.
Here we’ll walk through what you can expect from the rest of the week, and give all you conscious consumers out there the inside scoop on which of the participating restaurants are composting.
You may be looking at the list of over 50 of participating restaurants, many of North Carolina's finest food establishments, and wondering where to even start? We recommend looking for restaurants that composts. Shocking I know, but hear me out: if a restaurant cares about how their food scraps are handled, then they most definitely care about where their food comes from and take great care in it's preparation. Plus 50% or more of a typical restaurant’s waste stream is compostable. Think about all of those fresh veggie scraps heading for the landfill when they could be feed into a local compost pile to help grow more healthy food for the Triangle area! It doesn’t have to be that way. Organizations like CompostNow are here to make sure Raleigh homes and businesses alike have access to simple and affordable composting services.
These businesses have displayed a commitment to sustainability and the enrichment of their community. We encourage you to reward that commitment with your business on this week, and every week. Of course if find yourself visiting one of the participating restaurants that is NOT on the composting list, be sure to let them know that you would appreciate it if they would consider composting.
For starters, every day through August 21st, you can pop into one of the participating restaurants for their $5 or $10 lunch specials, depending on the venue. Work downtown? Luck duck. Go ahead and treat yourself to a new lunch spot each day of the week. Then when the weekend rolls around, make sure to stop by a healthy spot like HAPPY + HALE to fuel up for your Sunday Funday.
When the sun goes down, it’s time to feast on $20-$30 three-course prix fixe dinners. Uh, yum. And for all of you hardcore foodies out there looking for the complete culinary experience, DRRW has got you covered. Sign up for one of their “Taste Carolina” food tours and enjoy a guided jaunt through a few of Raleigh’s finest restaurants! Whatever you do, these local eateries are sure to be buzzing all week, so make sure to call ahead before heading out!
With just 4 days left, you should probably take advantage of as much deliciousness as possible. But if you can only make one night out on the town, we recommend turning Friday night into date night. Why Friday you ask? This year, the Downtown Raleigh Alliance is hosting Dine + Shop, where participating downtown retailers will stay open late (until 9 pm) and offer great deals and specials. What better time to do a little shopping than on a full stomach? Plus word on the street is that some stores will even provide a complementary glass of wine to shoppers who can produce a receipt from a participating restaurant.
Want FIFTEEN perfect off these fashionable yet indestructible bags from @hollyaikenbags? Visit the store during Dine + Shop this Friday night. They're extending their hours til 9pm! #dineandshop #downtownraleigh
