CompostNow and Tilthy Rich Compost Join Forces - Next Steps!

Posted by Kat 1 year, 6 months ago

We have some exciting news to share with you! On March 1, 2017, CompostNow and Tilthy Rich Compost decided to join forces and combine as one business. By combining resources, energy, and passions it will allow for the combined business to service more households, multi-family communities, offices, restaurants, and more throughout our service area. Together the two businesses diverted 856,984 lbs from the landfill in 2016 and are looking to more than double that figure in 2017.

Why is this happening?

CompostNow and Tilthy Rich have been friendly competitors since 2013 when Chris Russo started Tilthy Rich in Durham. During this time both businesses flourished and were run by passionate composters. It was determined that combining the businesses together was a good move to continue to grow and bring all these talented folks under one roof.

What does this mean to you?

CompostNow Members: Outside of normal business improvements, don’t expect much to change to your service as we will continue to operate under the CompostNow brand and use our same systems. For those of you who live in Durham and have seen the Tilthy Rich riders pedalling away, you may notice that you’ll end up on our bike route in the future. You’ll be notified of this change. Yay for clean transportation!

Tilthy Rich Members: In the near future, we’ll be transferring your account from Tilthy Rich’s system to CompostNow’s. This will include:

Moving Forward
We are dedicated to expanding the number of households, restaurants, and offices we service in the Triangle, as well as increasing outreach, education, and advocacy in the community. Our ultimate goal is to provide the most sustainable, and efficient, way of collecting compostables by optimizing and expanding the bike fleet while increasing service bounds through vehicle collection. Joining CompostNow’s team will be Kat Nigro, General Manager of Tilthy Rich Compost, along with their 15 member bike collection team. We’re excited to continue growing the compost movement in NC together. We’ll introduce our new team members in our next blog post - stay tuned! In the meantime, you can follow updates on our Facebook, Twitter, or Instagram!

Please don’t hesitate to email thedirt@compostnow.org if you have any thoughts or questions. We’d love to hear from you!
