I can hear the guy in the back of the room right now scoffing at the idea: "Bah! dirt?! Who the heck cares about cruddy ol' DIRT?!" Well kind sir, we do, and the more food scraps we pick up and divert, the more we realize that you composters do too. In fact, we've hauled 45,068 lbs. of food scraps that are a solid testament to how much we actually care. Besides that meat-head that doesn't care about dirt (luckily meats are compostable), 2012 has been an amazing display of community excitement about what this movement means for the course of how humanity looks at waste.
Composting is not a commodity, it's a necessity.
Since waste is a man made problem, it's our job to identify solutions and design our way out of this mess. It's important to recognize that our food scrap diversion service is but a mere step in the process that leads to that greater leap for mankind. This leap is when we collectively decide to integrate composting into our every day, and teach our children the importance of returning nutrients to the soil. Not just in our own gardens, but any piece of land that begs for it. This is why we need to keep pushing and building into 2013. This is why every living soul needs to know that composting isn't a commodity, but a necessity to sustaining a healthy people and planet. The road ahead is long, but it is lined with passionate individuals just like yourselves that want to compost, but they just don't know it yet! The more people that divert their food scraps with us, the more resources we gain to build a movement that will facilitate change for the whole country. Why wait for a mandate when you can choose to CompostNow?
Designing and building the many ways that we will be able to interact.
Recently, we launched the member dashboard on our website, a tool we plan to pack with resources for gaining momentum in this movement. We've even moved into a new, larger base of operations, and because of this we were able to bring on new members to the Compost Crew.
You drive this movement.
A brazen few have already come at us like spider monkeys with ideas on how to help spread the word about CompostNow. We want to welcome all of you to join in on this conversation. We're working with more community gardens and urban farms at coordinating our efforts to build a family out of many different communities.
Beyond the service we provide is a community waiting to be activated and connected with these community gardens and urban farms. Beyond the service are online tools to show you how many pounds of food scraps you've diverted, with many more features on deck. Beyond the service is giving you the power to not only divert your food scraps, but send the soil you help create to community gardens and urban farms around you and your family.
You literally help feed hungry people.
It's that simple, but oh so powerful. And in 2013, CompostNow is pushing to explore and expand into new territories that help us all make the most out of the darkest dirt any of us have ever seen, as well as the communities being brought together by a process that has helped all life see the light of day.
2013 will be packed with calendar events and blog posts (just like this one).
Organized by CompostNow and community partners, these blogs and events will host methods, techniques and philosophies for using your own soil, sending your soil along to those that need it, and connecting neighbors through nutrient rich urban farming and community gardening, and much more. We'll also be using these events as opportunities to get our food and drink on! We're so excited to see what we will build together in 2013. See you in the field.
Peace, love, & compost
